Carry on luggage is great for a few reasons. 1. You can frantically stuff things in it in front of a few hundred people when you find your checked bag to be overweight at the check-in counter. 2. You can use it to try to forgo spending money on a checked bag. Hope you pack light! And 3. It’s a safety net for if/when you checked bag get’s accidentally shipped to Alaska. If it hasn’t happened to you yet, it WILL happen. All that being said, we can come to the conclusion that carry-ons are awesome lifesavers and when you’re traveling with one, there are a few things you should never forget to put inside it.
1 | Tampons
Not your time of the month? Pack em’ anyway. You never know when there’ll be a full moon and your unexpected lady friend decides to show her face. Don’t get caught unprepared during a 4 hour layover having to buy a box of 4 tampons for $20 in one of the crazily overpriced airport “convenient” stores. Better yet? Don’t get caught unprepared ever. Get organic tampons delivered to your door every month by SHE. We promise to have your back.
2 | Undies
You know that bit about your luggage getting sent to Alaska? Could happen. And if your final destination was JFK, you might not be very amused. So while you might not be able to fit a week’s worth of clothes in your carry-on luggage, you can rest easy knowing you at least have a few pairs of clean undies ready for you, should you need them. You know, the essentials.
3 | Your warmest, coziest sweater
There’s just something about air travel that makes your nose feel scratchy, throat feel dry, and give you the chills. I know, glorious. For whatever reason (actually, it’s to keep bacteria growth to a minimum), airplanes can surprisingly chilly. For the love of not wrapping yourself in an overused, thin, flannel blanket, be sure to pack yourself a cozy, warm sweater. You’ll feel better knowing you’ve used your own stuff to stay warm, trust us.
4 | Phone charger
Sure, you might have fully charged your phone before you got to the airport, but who knows how long that will last through a long layover or *gasp* a flight delay. Better stick on the safe side and bring a charger juuuust in case it doesn’t make it for the long haul. You’ll want to be sure you’re able to let Becky know what baggage carousel to meet you at.
5 | Valuables
You know, any and every important piece of paper (or plastic) you might need at your destination. What else? Safe bets are: your laptop, jewelry, money, camera, fav shoes, maybe? Hopefully, this never happens to you, but in the case that your luggage gets stolen or rummaged through, rest easy knowing that the important stuff was with you all along.
